Each one of us is in the pursuit of happiness. We aren’t on Earth just to exist. We want a full life. We want to make the most of our days. For many of us, happiness is a mercurial and elusive concept. But it's not. Boost your happiness by practicing gratitude daily.

5 WAYS TO PRACTICING GRATITUDE ON THE DAILY

Studies suggest that writing in a gratitude journal three times a week might actually have a greater impact on our happiness than journaling.

Practicing gratitude is something that I’ve made a personal goal of this past year. Since keeping a gratitude journal, I've noticed that it's helped me be more appreciative, more aware, and more observant. It's helped me feel more grounded and much happier. 

Instead of focusing on the things that I don't have or haven't experienced, keeping a gratitude journal helps me focus on the things that I do have and experiences I've had.

Ready to start a gratitude journal? Here are some of my tips for getting started:

Pick a journal. You could choose one small enough to slip in your purse or a bigger one to keep on your nightstand.

Keep tabs on the happy moments. When something good happens to you, take a moment to write it down. How did it make you feel? By jotting down the good, happy moments, you're making it a habit to focus on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative.

Set an intention. Before you start your day, take a moment to set an intention for the day. It can be something that you are grateful for or an affirmation for the day. Don't know where to start? When I first started journaling I used to take the daily quote from my yogi tea. It helped a lot! As I got the hang of things, my daily affirmation and intentions just started to come naturally. 

Nightly gratitude. Before you go to bed at night, take time to capture your favorite moment of the day. What made you smile today? This will help you to appreciate things in your life. You’ll be amazed how much you were missing when you do.

Did someone say shots? Now, these are my kinda shots 😉  After a holiday weekend, wellness shots are what we all need! So, this weekend was Easter 🐣 and I'm sure you had a great time. Did you eat your weight in Easter chocolate this weekend? It's ok, don't beat yourself up. We all fall off track. Even those of us with the strongest of willpower may have strayed away from our workouts or regular eating habits. It’s perfectly normal, and we can all relate to this.

Seriously... It's ok, don't beat yourself up. We all fall off track. Even those of us with the strongest of willpower may have strayed away from our workouts or regular eating habits. It’s perfectly normal, and we can all relate to this.

If you’ve fallen off course, it isn’t the end of the world. it sure might seem like it is at the moment, but it’s not. Rather than freaking out, you must recognize that you want to get back on track. Don’t beat yourself up mentally.

Whether the scale is reading higher than normal, or our clothes fit a little snug, you must do your very best to be compassionate and kind to yourself. When achieving any goal, there will be wins and there will be losses. It’s normal and part of the journey.

The right mindset will make all the difference in getting back into our routine. Here are some smart and simple healthy choices that you incorporate and practice daily that will help you get back on track:

1. Stay hydrated and drink water. Choose water as your drink whenever possible. Water has no calories, tastes great, quenches our thirst, helps flush toxins from our bodies, and the list goes on and on. Choose water. All day. Every day.

2. Get back to a normal sleep schedule. Late night parties and pulling all-nighters can lead to poor sleep habits. Poor sleep can negatively affect metabolism. Try your best to get a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

3. Write down a small daily fitness goal that includes some type of exercise. If we choose a small goal — go for a walk, get 30 minutes on the treadmill, practice 20 minutes of yoga.

4. Maintain a positive attitude. This might be the most important one! When it comes to successful weight loss, one of the most important things to remember is the power of positivity. Tell yourself that you cannot do something and you won't; however, tell yourself that you can do something and you will! This is true for weight loss too. We are all capable of doing anything we want as long as we believe in ourselves. Keep negative self-talk out of your words and don’t beat yourself up if you have a bad day – tomorrow provides another chance to do things right!

Keep your mind like a clear blue sky and simply let clouds pass by. Whether it is your own thoughts or someone else, if it is not positive then you do not need it. Stay on your path, positive and on track! If you let situations dictate your mindset, you'll constantly feel stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious. If instead you simply let things happen and pass you by, you will be in control. Choose for yourself. You decide.

Practice Makes Perfect

Do you know anyone who trains to be in second place? I don't. If you are going to show up, why not show up to win. This means you put into practice anything necessary to be the best that you can be. That may include giving up some indulgences to do that extra study session, finish a project at work, or a gym sweat sesh. Perhaps stick to your good, cleaning eating plan or getting extra sleep. It will take some extra effort on your part, but remember that practice makes perfect.

Surround yourself with people who are confident, positive, and successful. Individuals who can act as a role model to inspire you to tap into your own greatness. You'll be surprised at how peer pressure, can have a positive influence as well to drive your actions!

Self Controlling Willpower

You might think you have absolutely no will power, but that is entirely wrong. Your willpower and self-control are locked up right now without a key, but you can be your gatekeeper and unlock it! It takes some discipline, but studies show that people who exhibit real willpower tend to be more successful in reaching their goals. It sometimes takes some mental aggression! Try these simple tests to your willpower. Choose NOT to watch your favorite TV show, stay off of your social media for one night, get up out of bed as soon as your alarm goes off in the morning, stop yourself from that double caramel latte for one week. The more obstacles you undertake, the stronger your willpower will become, and you can then apply it to bigger things and just watch how quickly you will begin to attain your goals and be successful.
