Jump-Start Your Fitness Journey

There are lots of things that can get in the way of healthy weight loss. It’s up to you to get those things out of your life, so they don’t hinder your goals.

Weight loss happens when you burn more calories than you consume. Be creating a daily calorie deficit, you can shed pounds and reach a healthy number. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it because being at a healthy weight protects you from heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Get rid of these things to jump start your fitness journey.

1. Toss Your Bathroom Scale

Yes. You read the correctly. This one comes with a caveat. You want to hide your scale rather than carrying it to your curb for the garbage man to collect. The thing here is that you don’t want to weight yourself every single day. Your weight fluctuates a bit from day to day, and this habit can actually discourage you. Instead, experts suggest weighing in once a week at the same time on the same day without your clothes. This will help you stay on track.

2. Get Rid of All the Junk Food

If that bag of Doritos or Snickers bar is there, it’s very hard not to give in to temptation and chow down. That’s why you need to rid your fridge and pantry of all the things that make it hard for you to lose weight and eat better. Toss bad habits called chips, cake, cookies, soda, candy and anything else that isn’t a healthy choice. I’m not saying you can’t indulge now and the, but having to go out and get junk food will help you resist most of the time.

3. Your “Fat” Clothes Can Go

Hanging on to clothing that you pull out when your weight creeps up makes it more likely that you won’t resist when you should be. Toss all those larger clothes and chances are you’ll be much more motivated to stay on track. After all, who wants to go back out and buy bigger clothes when they’re trying to lose weight? Make sure you have clothes that fit you but get rid of them as you get smaller and smaller. And, instead of donating, you can sell them on online consignment shops like ThredUp.

4. Put Your Office Chair in Storage

Whether you’re sitting in your chair at work or in your home office, you are still sitting, which keeps you sedentary. By swapping out your chair for an exercise ball, you naturally burn more calories because you have to engage your balance to keep from falling off the ball. You might also try a standing desk, which you can use for part of the day to keep you on your feet and burning calories.

5. Throw Out All Those Fat-Free Foods and Drinks

You might think that fat-free foods and drinks are the answer for eating junk and still losing weight. However, most foods that have the fat removed are full of sugar or salt to replace the flavor. That still equates to a higher calorie count. Losing weight involves burning calories, so be sure you balance your intake with your output. Eat healthily, high-fiber foods to satisfy your appetite.
